NIH & NSF Policies

In addition to the federal Circulars which govern all federal projects, many federal sponsors, in addition to non-federal organizations, have their own agency-specific requirements.  It is the responsibility of PIs and administrative staff to be familiar with those requirements.  Given the large proportion of project support from the NIH and NSF, the links below direct you to the policies of those two agencies.

NSF's current Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) contains the Grants Proposal Guide (GPG) and the Award and Administration Guide (AAG).  This version of the PAPPG is effective for proposals submitted, or due, on or after January 14, 2013. The Guide can be found here:

NEW - For proposals submitted or due on or after February 24, 2014, the guidelines in GPG 14-1 apply:

  • PAPPG - NSF 14-1  - included are 'Summaries of Significant Changes' from the previous version of the PAPPG

NIH's current publication of the NIH Grants Policy Statement was revised 10/1/2013 (NIHGPS, rev. 10/1/2013).  This revision is applicable to all NIH grants and cooperative agreements with budget periods beginning on or after October 1, 2013.
